Our story


1931 : Henri and Félix RASTIT married the daughters of the ship-owner GIANONNI de Cassano in Balagne and founded the COMPAGNIE MERIDIONALE DE NAVIGATION.

1937 : La Méridionale conveyed crude oil products to Corsica, and various goods in conventional vessels.

1970 : The service to Corsica started to run Ro-Ro ships with the Roll On – Roll Off technique of horizontal loading. This same technique is still used today.

1976 :
 The recognized quality of  La Méridionale services led to its participation in the public service to link mainland France and the Isle of Beauty (Corsica).



1988 : At the request of the Corsican Office of Transport, La Méridionale  transformed its Ro-Ro ships to allow them to carry passengers and their vehicles. This development allowed the quality of service to be improved by adding a daily departure for passengers to freight transport.

1989 : Opening of the Sardinia Line as a continuation of the Propriano service. This line has participated in the development of the Gulf of Valinco and the Sartenes area by improving economic exchange between the two islands.

1992 : La Méridionale
 joined the STEF-TFE Group.

1993 : Launch of the « Kalliste », a new generation passenger and car ferry in Bastia.



1996 : La Méridionale
 was the first French ship-owner in the Mediterranean and the second in France running passenger ships to obtain the double international quality certification I.S.M and I.S.O 9002.

1999 : Launch of the « Scandola » in Ajaccio. This vessel replaced the « Santa Regina » that now operates on the lines to Propriano, Isula Rossa and Porto Torres


2002 :
Concession holder for the new public service to link Marseille and Corsica from 1st January with its partner SNCM. The company launched the « Girolata ». The « Kalliste » was altered in order to receive 500 passengers and by the middle of the year the « Santa Regina » stopped operating on the lines to Corsica.

2003 : La Méridionale obtained ISO 9001 : 2000 certification that guarantees the taking into account and satisfaction of the needs of all our clients.


: La Méridionale obtained, with SNCM, the contract for the public service to Corsica until 2013

2009 : The Det Norske Veritas company (DNV) awarded to La Méridionale the ISO 14001 certification for the implementation of its Environmental Management System (EMS). 

2011 : Launch of the « Piana » in Bastia. This vessel replaced the « Kalliste » that now operates on the lines to Propriano and Porto Torres.
