The Commanding Officer :

Head of the sea voyage, he/she is the representative of the ship-owner, and his task is to conduct and maintain the vessel in his care in all safety, to direct his/her crew, whilst overseeing the performance of the operation.

Chief Engineer :

Chief of the engines department, his/her task is to look after its running and preventative maintenance, as well as repairs necessary to pursue the sea voyage, according to the quality criteria of the company. He/she delegates part of his/her responsibilities to the Second and Third Engineers.

Chief Officer :

Head of the deck department, his/her task is to ensure the safety and security of the ship, he/she organises commercial operations, he/she is responsible for discipline on board. He/she delegates a part of his/her responsibilities to the Safety and Navigation Officers. These three Officers keep watches on the bridge.

The Purser :

Head of the accommodation and food services department, his/her task is to offer the best service to passengers, he/she must oversee the maintenance of passenger areas, quality and hygiene of products sold. He/she reports on sales made.

Second Engineer :

Under the authority of the Chief Engineer, he/she is responsible for maintaining propulsion and the production of energy.

Ship Safety Officer :

Under the authority of the Chief Officer, he/she is responsible for testing and maintaining everything that contributes to safety regarding fire and water-logging.

Navigation Officer :

Under the authority of the Chief Officer, he/she is responsible for testing and maintaining everything concerning safety in the case of abandon of the ship. He/she is responsible for keeping all bridge documents up to date. He/she is in charge of checking medical supplies.

Third Engineer :

Under the authority of the Chief Engineer, he/she is in charge of the maintenance of exterior equipment (air conditioning, food refrigerators, kitchen and bar equipment, toilets and bathrooms…).

Cadet :

His/her task is to prepare himself/herself technically and psychologically to take on the responsibilities of an Officer, he/she participates in all tasks on board.

Boatswain :

Supervises the sailors and is responsible for the maintenance of the exterior areas of the vessels and garage areas. He/she directs mooring operations at the bow of the ship. He/she assists the Chief Officer in operations of loading and unloading of the ship.

Master at Arms :

Two crew-members hold this position and they assist the Safety Officer and the Navigation Officer in the maintenance of safety and rescue equipment on the ship. Their task is also to welcome and guide passengers embarking with their vehicles as well as assigning places to freight vehicles.

Sailors :

They assist officers on watches, participate in manoeuvres of mooring, and secure freight in the garage areas. Under the authority of the Boatswain, they also carry out the maintenance of the exterior and garage areas of the ship.

Engine room supervisor :

He/she assists the Engineers in their work to run and maintain the engines of the ship and related appliances.

Mechanics :

Under the authority of the Engine room supervisor, they undertake the different work of maintenance and repairs on the different appliances in the engines.

Electrician :

He/she is responsible for the functioning and maintenance of the electric systems on board as well as different related equipment: production of electricity, distribution and electrical appliances.

Quartermaster :

He/she is responsible for the supply of food on the ship. In this role, he/she assists the Purser in checking and overseeing the points of sale on board.

Chef :

Together with the quartermaster, the Chef prepares the restaurant menu and the dishes appearing on it. He/she directs operations in the kitchen to ensure high-quality service.

Maître d’hôtel :

Head waiter, his/her task is to use the resources of his/her team to offer the best service possible to clients in the different points of sale on the ship. He/she welcomes the clients when boarding and gives them the keys to their cabins.

Chef de Rang :

The Maître d’hôtel’s direct assistant for service in the dining room. He/she is also responsible for the payment of meals in the restaurant.

Barman :

He/she is responsible for the bar and with the help of the waiters provides service for clients in the restaurant or at the bar.

Waiters :

Spread over the different points of sale on the ship, their job is to look after and serve customers according to their requirements.
